Let's talk cravings & aversions!

My cravings during this pregnancy have been normal to completely weird!

At the beginning I was craving a lot of beef dishes since I was turned off chicken 100%. Chicken was my main source of protein until the nausea hit and even the thought of it would make me feel so sick! I would want meatloaf, tacos, burritos, burgers and lemonade. I went through a small lemonade phase but that ended quickly. The next craving I had was pretty cliche. Pickles. I would eat 4-5 in one sitting... I couldn't help it!

Another interesting thing I noted was that I was actually craving pasta, noodles, bland foods and most of all cereal. I still have this craving pretty bad. The downfall of this craving is I was wanting Mr.Noodles and KD just like when I was a kid. I mean quick & easy... but not very healthy!

My aversions started to get weirder and weirder as the weeks pass.. Like I said above chicken was a huge one on my aversions list.. However prior to becoming pregnant I would eat plant based as much as I could with chicken as my protein and now I have a hard time even eating vegetables unless its a caesar salad but I hardly count that as a vegetable! iceberg lettuce has barley any nutrition!

I stopped at Whole Foods the other day and picked up a couple of these Well Cold Pressed Juices to kind of kick start my veggie tastebuds again. Let me tell you, the greens juice is SO good! I loved it! It tastes as if I juiced it that morning and myself!

Twelve weeks!

  I am officially 12 weeks!

The last 12 weeks of my life have been full of so many symptoms and feeling anxious but so excited! This is somewhat of a big milestone. It marks the near end of the first trimester and onto the second! I will say my tiredness has eased up and my morning sickness has as well. I just need to watch I don't eat too quickly and don't lay down right after eating or acid reflux will attack!

I've also officially switched to maternity pants and yoga pants 100% because I can't handle the tightness of my clothing. I've had to purchase a couple of new maternity bras from Thyme Maternity and I fee like I already need to go back and get a bigger size! My milk bags just won't stop growing!

Weeks nine to eleven

 Week 9
I got up really early to start drinking 32 oz of water for the ultrasound and I was called 45 mins prior to the appointment and the ultrasound tech sadly was sick so we needed to reschedule. I was pretty upset because I had been forcing myself to drink the water and to the point my stomach was saying NOPE and I would have to start over and over because I couldn't keep the water down. Thankfully I was able to reschedule the following Monday so it was like 4 days away!
Monday couldn't come quick enough. I got up even earlier to start drinking the water and I ended up only throwing up once. WOOO! This was probably the most surreal moment when we went into the ultrasound room & the tech slapped on some warm jelly on my belly & our little one was shown! At this point I didn't really feel pregnant besides not being able to keep the water down and symptoms.  I couldn't stop smiling at the monitor. This is when little bean was a bean 9 weeks 4 days! 1 inch & twitching it's arms & feet. Heart rate at 167BPM

This was one of such a beautiful moment. My spouse Spencer was waiting for me to come out of the washroom afterwards & he was just smiling ear to ear looking at the roll of sonogram photos. He was in awe. It was the cutest most genuine moment I had seen. It made me want to cry!

Week 10 was pretty uneventful apart from a little scare as I was spotting dark red. I called the emergency maternity doctor and she calmed me and said if it doesn't ease off to go to the hospital. I got off the phone and I had a good cry. I was so scared & sad. Spencer was really cute and asked to put his head on my belly to try and hear the heartbeat (He knew he wouldn't be able to but knew it would cheer me up.) We got the doppler out and heard babys heart beat right away and that was a instant relief.

Week 11
Acid reflux is REAL! Holy moly. This week was a little rough because not only did I have acid reflux... I also still had morning sickness! I was tired and had to mentally prepare myself to go away for Easter Weekend and try and hide my symptoms! We hadn't told Spencer's father yet and we went away to a cabin in Port Renfrew. Over all it went really well! I even managed to sneak my Snoogle into our room without anyone noticing! Separate blog post on the Snoogle.. It's AMAZING.

Weeks five to eight

Starting at week 5 it was game time. Baby was the size of a apple seed! I needed to make an appointment to find a Maternity Doctor or Midwife. I ended up choosing a Maternity Doctor and made an appointment for 6 weeks. I started to take prenatal vitamins a day after I found out because I am a worry wart!

By week 6 baby had grown to be the size of a pea! I was getting more symptoms including, morning sickness, metallic taste in my mouth and I ended up coming down with the worst cold I've actually ever had! I tried everything I could to help my sinuses and even bought a neti pot and would use it 3 times a day. It was AWFUL.

Week 7 was very uneventful I was just having morning sickness and was very very tired. I would go to work and come home and sleep. I felt like a child myself! Silver our Mainecoon kitty has been snuggling up to me more. Especially in my pelvis area. I had a feeling she knew. Now she is always stuck by my side and when I go to sleep she's always at my side sleeping. Keeping guard!

Week 8 I could hear the heartbeat on a home fetal doppler. I first heard it at the doctors office and I was a little sad Spencer wasn't with me to hear little ones heart flutter. So I found a used doppler on Varagesale a local virtual app to swap and shop. Best $20 I spent!
Symptoms while Week 8 was lots and lots of bloating, belching and gas let's just be real.  I was also vomiting more this week and the thought and smell of chicken made me feel soo sick. This is when it all began! All the aversions. Chicken, garlic, cheese except cheddar cheese.

The beginning of forever

I am over the moon excited to announce we are expecting a new addition to our family November 2017! 💗💙 We can't wait to meet little one! It has been a suuuuper hard secret to keep as many already know but officially we can announce. ☺️❤️ We have known since I was 4 weeks pregnant. It was right at the very beginning when I tested where I was only getting a faint line.

We weren't trying or anything  because I had just started a new position within the Government and Spencer got a promotion to a IT Supervisor role. We were so excited just about life so when we found out we were scared! I was feeling a little guilty because I love my job and I had just started! That being said you can see below I am so excited!!

I wanted to add the genuine moment I walked out of the bathroom after my ultrasound & I saw Spencer just staring & his amazing smile :') Best moment this year as of yet.- T xo
